An artist of contrasts, the Montreal-based Davidson creates soundscapes that move between the hypnotic pulse of techno and the ethereal drift of ambient music. Her work is often described as dark and heavy, yet hidden beneath the surface are winks of humour and a sense of mischievous fun. On stage as a DJ, she transforms into a force of energy, making the crowd dance with sets designed to both challenge and entertain.
While her name is tied to five solo albums—including her upcoming LP City Of Clowns—Davidson's fingerprints can be found on numerous collaborations, from the shadowy synth duo Essaie pas to projects like Marie Davidson & L'Œil Nu, DKMD, SLEAZY, and the experimental Les Momies de Palerme. Each partnership shows her versatility and ability to effortlessly switch between genres—whether it's crafting minimalistic club tracks, blending spoken poetry with rock, or diving into pop-infected grooves.
Releasing on iconic labels such as Ninja Tune, DFA Records, Cititrax (Minimal Wave), and Holodeck Records, Davidson's ability to balance introspection with the external pulse of the dance floor reflects a deeper, almost philosophical engagement with the act of music-making. From the solitude of the studio to the collective euphoria of a packed club, she builds bridges between emotion and motion, thought and rhythm, always leaving room for the unexpected.
